Martin, James P., age 79 of Myrtle Avenue, Moundsville, WV died Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale, WV.
He was born December 31, 1928 in Mexico.
He was a retired attendant from the Goodwill Rehabilitation Center.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Frances Martin; four sons, Thomas (Vicki) Hall of Yorkville, OH, Mark Hall of Canton, OH, Ken (Shirley) Hall of Yorkville, and Lane Fowler of Canton, OH; a daughter, Hazel (Chuck) Carter of Georgia; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Saturday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Avenue, Moundsville and Monday from 10 am until time of funeral service at 11am at Reed Funeral Home, Canton, OH.
Interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Louisville, OH.

Chambers, Charles William “Bill”, Sr., age 85 of RD#4, Moundsville, WV died Tuesday, July 1, 2008 in Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale, WV.
He was born July 2, 1922 the son of the late Sam and Goldie Slonaker Chambers; in Moundsville where he spent his entire life.
Bill attended school in Moundsville and was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
He served in WWII for 3 ½ years in Signal Corp attached to Air Force (C2); was employed several years at Wheeling Steel and later several years at LCP/Allied Chemical in maintenance; where he retired.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Blair Chambers; a sister, Connie Atkins; a brother, Ivan “Ike” Chambers, and a grandson, Charles William “Chuck” Chambers, III.
Survivors include his second wife of 33 years, Jane Toothman Chambers; two sons, Charles William Jr. (Sharon) Chambers and Blair (Michelle) Chambers; a brother, Don (Thelma) Chambers; a sister, Helen Grisell, all of Moundsville; a grandson, Dr. Craig (Anne) Chambers of Williamstown, WV; two granddaughters, Lisa (Blane) Rich and Libby Chambers; a stepson, Robert (Sabrina) Montgomery of Moundsville; a stepdaughter, Susan (Chuck) Barnett of Westerville, OH; two step-granddaughter, Leslie (Tom) Gurzs of Lewis Center, OH and Shelby Hess; two step-grandsons, Dr. Andrew (Rachel) Montgomery of Elkins, WV and Alex Hess; and four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Avenue, Moundsville where funeral services will be held Saturday at 11am.
Interment in Halcyon Hills Memorial Park, Sherrard where the Moundsville Honor Guard will conduct military graveside services.

Higgins, Fern, 91, of Pine Grove, WV, died Monday, June 30, 2008 at Wheeling Medical Park, Wheeling, WV.
She was born May 21, 1917 in Jacksonburg, WV, the daughter of the late John and Priscilla Brock Aberegg.
She was a quilter and homemaker; and a Presbyterian by faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Aberegg; and 6 sisters, Clara Dunlap, Ellen Egan, Vera Gray, Florence Karr, Martha Hillberry, and Lelah Karr.
Survivors include her loving husband of 68 years, Glen Higgins; two sons, John (Nita) Higgins of New Martinsville, WV and Ross (Jeanie) Higgins of Paden City, WV; a daughter, Synthia (Raymond) Figlar of Pine Grove; four grandchildren, Priscilla Higgins, Penny (Kevin) Harrison, Heather (Brad) Heck, and Nathan (Tabitha) Figlar; two step grandsons, Jeff (Amie) Henderson and Bill (Alyssa) Henderson; two great granddaughters, Jasmine and Linda Figlar; five step great grandchildren, Tanner, Zachary, Emilee, Cole and Casey Henderson and several nieces and nephews.

Milliken, Bertha T., retired teacher of Hundred High School, died June 28, 2008 in New Martinsville Health Care Center at the age of 101.
A resident of New Martinsville, West Virginia, she was born December 21, 1906 near Earnshaw, WV. She was the daughter of the late Brown E. and Margaret J. Hudson Teagarden.
She was a graduate of Littleton High School in 1925 and of Fairmont State College.
Bertha was involved with the Wetzel County School system for 25 years, beginning her career in a one-room schoolhouse at Long Drain, WV. She spent 14 years at Hundred High School before retiring in 1972.
She was a lifetime member of WV Association of Retire School Employees, a member of the New Martinsville Homemakers, the Steelton United Methodist Church, and the Suzanne Circle of the United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John W. Milliken on May 20, 1984, a son Charles Wayne “C.W.” Milliken, a daughter-in-law Helen Rita Spies Milliken, two brothers Ray and Ralph Teagarden.
Survivors include a granddaughter Mary Kay (R.L.) Milliken of New Martinsville, a sister June Church of Orlando, FL, a great-granddaughter Abigail Christine Milliken and a great-grandson Alexander Joseph Milliken both of New Martinsville.
Family will receive friends on Monday from 11:00am until 1:45pm at Grisell Funeral Home and Crematory, 751 Third St., New Martinsville.
Graveside services and interment will be held Monday at 2:00pm at Greenlawn Memorial New Martinsville with Fr. Stephen Vallelonga officiating.

Workman, Francis A., 72, of Russell Avenue, New Martinsville, WV, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at the New Martinsville Health Care Center.
He was born September 19, 1935 in Moundsville, WV, the son of the late Joe and Mahala Greathouse Workman.
He was a farmer; a member of Moose Lodge #931 and the American Legion Post #28, both of New Martinsville; and a member of the First Christian Church in New Martinsville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond, Simon, Marion and Roy Workman.
Survivors include his good friends, Mr. & Mrs. John Newman and Mr. & Mrs. William Knisely, all of New Martinsville; and Mr. & Mrs. Douglas Newman of Columbus, OH.

Conner, Leo “Sonny”, age 70 of RD#1, Glen Easton, WV died Tuesday, June 24, 2008 in Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale, WV.
He was born June 9, 1938 in Marshall County, WV the son of the late Leo and Vera Norris Conner.
He was a Vietnam Army Veteran; a retired employee of Consolidated Coal Company; a member of Earl Francis Post #3 American Legion; and F.O. Eagles #499.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Conner; and a grandson, Joshua R. Hess.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda (Bobby) Baucom of Washburn, Missouri; a son, Brent Conner of Glen Easton; a sister, Verla (Ronald) Allen of Moundsville; two half-brothers, Pete (Alice) Wnek of Glen Easton, and Don Lee (Janet) Wnek of Moundsville; and a half-sister, Donna (Paul) Hewitt of Moundsville.

Menendez, F.J. “Bananas”, age 88 of Purdy Avenue, Moundsville, WV died Monday, June 23, 2008 in Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale, WV.
He was born December 1, 1919 in Piedras Blancas, Spain the son of
the late Joe “Pepe” and Oliva Gonzalez Menendez.
He graduated from Moundsville High School in 1938, where he played basketball; He was a WWII Army Air Corp veteran; a retired maintenance foreman from the former, Allied Chemical; was appointed as a member of the first City of Moundsville Recreation Commission and served two terms on the Moundville High School Booster Club
He was a member and lector of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church; a past member and exalted ruler of Moundsville Elks #282; past president of WV Elks; and currently a member of the Sistersville Elks #333; was a member of the Ohio Valley Board of Approved Umpires and worked Baseball games for more than 25 years in the area; was a scorekeeper for over 30 years for John Marshall High School and Moundsville High School basketball games.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Melendez.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Alice Woodburn Menendez; two sons, Mark (Sondy) Menendez and Mick (Cindy) Menendez, both of Moundsville; a daughter Margie (Rick) Kidd-Stocking of Louisville, KY; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm and Wednesday from 10-10:45am at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Avenue, Moundsville where the Sistersville Elks #333 will hold Services Tuesday at 7:30pm.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11am at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 610 Jefferson Avenue, Moundsville with Fr. Albert Driesch as celebrant.

He was born September 15, 1931 in New Martinsville, the son of the late John H. and Bertha Hickman Howell, Sr.
He was a farmer, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and a Protestant by faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Howell; a brother, Floyd W. Howell; and a nephew, Jack Priest.
Survivors include four brothers, Raymond L. Howell of New Martinsville; Homer Howell of Smithfield, WV; Charles Howell of Hastings, WV; and Warren Howell of New Martinsville; two sisters, Betty L. Klug and Phyllis Priest, both of New Martinsville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was born June 22, 1950 in Petersburg, WV the son of Raymond and Isabelle Smith Spencer of Pickaway, WV.
He was Co-Executive Director of the Farm Service Agency with the US Department of Agriculture; a member of McMechen-Benwood Methodist Church; Masonic Lodge #5 AF & AM, Wheeling; Royal Order of Jesters Court 13; Osiris Shrine; Scottish Rite, Wheeling; and former member and past president of Moundsville Rotary Club.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife of 37 years, Linda Smith Spencer; three daughters, Heather (Chris) Holmes, Erica Spencer; all of Birmingham, AL and Valerie (Edward) Blankenship of Montgomery, Ala.; two sisters, Judith (Don) Merritt of Bellaire, MD and Barbara (Ambrose) Leong of Bristol, VA; a grandson, Guthrie Franklin Holmes; several nieces and nephews, his faithful black lab, Ike Isenhoweler; and his beloved Belle-Lea-Acres farm in Greenbrier County.

Stiles, Maxine Durig Jefferson, of Moundsville, died in Reynolds Memorial Hospital on Sunday, June 15, 2008.
She was born in Moundsville the daughter of the late Ross and Austa Durig.
She was a 47-year employee of Reynolds Memorial Hospital, a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where she served on the Vestry Board.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Ronald Jefferson, her second husband John Stiles, and an infant grandson.
Survivors include a daughter Darlene (David) Meeker of Moundsville, three grandchildren Daniel (Linda) Meeker, Drew Meeker, and Deanne (Dan) Clutter, seven great-grandchildren Derek, Molly and Adam Meeker, Catey and David Tyler Meeker, Casey and Carrie Clutter.

Conkle, Lawrence “Banjo”, age 85 of Bowman’s Ridge, WV passed away at home with his family by his side on Friday, June 13, 2008.
He was born on January 13, 1923 in Moundsville, the son of the late Roy and Maggie Conkle.
He was in the CCC’s Army camp, a Korean conflict Army veteran corporal, the Merchant Marines for six years and a member of the Earl Francis Post #3, American Legion for over 40 years.
He was a retired employee of Humphrey Coal Mine, the Ireland Mine at Rosby’s Rock, and a member of UMWA Local 1110.
He was also worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways in Lynn Camp, Marx Toy Factory, and the railroad. He was a school bus driver for Marshall County for over 10 years and a dairy farmer for over 35 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an identical twin brother Clarence “Plum” Conkle, another brother George “Buck” Conkle and an infant daughter Sharon Sue Conkle.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years Shirley Mae Conkle, four children Roy “Butch” (Lorie) Conkle, Sr. of Moundsville, Joyce (Larry “Butch”) Whetzel, Sr., Larry (Donna) Conkle, Sr., and Teresa (Mike) Hughes all of Bowman’s Ridge; nine grandchildren Roy “Butchie” Conkle, Jr., Wendy (Mike) Kelley, Larry “Bub” Whetzel, Jr., Brian Conkle, Larry Conkle, Jr., Cassie Conkle, Brent Conkle, Wesley Hughes, and Ryan Hughes; two great-grandchildren Cheyenne McKenzie Conkle and Dillon Daugherty.

She was born September 28, 1911 in Cameron, Marshall County, WV, the daughter of the late James and Leona Buzzard Burley.
She was a 1931 graduate of Cameron High School; the co-owner of Cameron Hardware for 42 years with her husband; was a member of Cameron United Methodist Church; Order of Eastern Star Loraine Chapter #9; a quilt maker; and she and her husband loved to travel the world.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Knoop; and an infant daughter and son.
Survivors include a niece, Margaret (Jack) Winter; a grandnephew, Justin (Diane) Winter, a grandniece, Alyson R. Winter; all of Canonsburg, PA; and her faithful caregivers, Vicky Minor, Joann Burley, Sally Scott, and Angel Galentine.
